"has finally come to the Valley when the Truth", these were the words of Eulate Iker Garcia, spokesperson for the initiative Deierri 1936, which began the day tribute to the victims of Franco's repression of this valley in the region of Navarre Lizarraldea / Tierra Estella.
The seminar held in Ibiriku-Deierri has been a real turning point for many years to overcome of silence, fear, concealment and neglect. After a year of work, documentation and research, overcoming all obstacles, to the popular initiative Deierri 1936 it was time to present the results and bring to light the tragic history of the Franco regime and the consequences of fascist coup the area. A brave and necessary project from 1936-1977 Ahaztuak we have supported from the outset and we have also put our grain of sand. The look of the qualified local and named for the occasion as Ibiriku Antzokia not disappoint the expectation created in the Valley, and the place became too small to accommodate from early afternoon to about 200 people who came mostly from the towns of Deierri. Substantial assistance to a village of 60 inhabitants as Ibiriku in a valley which has a total population of approximately 1500 residents. Deierri neighbors died as a result of the suppression of the coup faction and more than 70 leftist militants from nearby localities (Larraga, Dicastillo, Lerin, Lizarra Allo, San Adrián, Los Arcos ...) were killed in the Valley. The day tribute held in memory of all those people had a full and varied program. During 2 ½ hours time stopped Ibiriku-Deierri in the valley stopped to read that page that the pattern of impunity established by those responsible for so much suffering have tried to boot.
The screening of the documentary Deierri 1936 and launched the book with the same title gave way to the interventions of Jose Mari Esparza (author of the work must have "Navarra 1936: From Hope to terror") and Carlos Otxoa (member Ahazuak 1936-1977), accompanied on the table for Eulate Iker Garcia speaking on behalf of the popular initiative Deierri 1936. Among the three key presenters explained the political and social situation that existed in the Valley Yerri in Navarre and all the rest of Euskal Herria and the general context in the English state during the Second Republic, the fascist rebellion against the democratic system, war and dictatorship which came after it. Without forgetting the role played by the clergy of the Valley, the importance of Carlism in the area and the harsh reality of what happened, were analyzed the main aspects of the Franco regime in the area. They were also reminded residents of Deierri that in part forced by circumstances and partly deceived by the clergy, came forward in the thirds of requetés and defectors who were killed when they tried to flee the war and return home. Special presence throughout the event was the memory of Lamberto Wonderland, Larraga girl raped and murdered in Ibiriku. Wonderland is the symbol of the fascist repression against women in Navarre and is one of dozens of people shot in Deierri. The valley became a true human dump, largely because of the many bags of the nearby prison that starred Estella death squads carrying the deadly ride leftists detained in Lizarra to these lands. After the panel discussion was also the time to report the position of the council of UPN and PSOE in the Valley that their votes were rejected in the City Council a motion which sought to involve the institution in research and exhumation of mass graves of Deierri, it was time to joteras Larraga The singer and Balentzia Fermin.
